Red Sox Predicted To Swing Blockbuster Two-Player Trade With Padres

The Boston Red Sox are reportedly not very likely to land superstar free agent Alex Bregman this winter.

If Bregman is off the table for the Red Sox, they may need to turn their attention to other talent in order to capitalize on the New York Yankees losing Juan Soto. Boston could become a real threat in the American League East with the right move or two.

FanSided’s Chris Landers recently suggested the Red Sox could swing a massive trade with the San Diego Padres for starting pitcher Michael King and reliever Robert Suarez.

“If an offensive upgrade isn’t in the cards, why not just build the whole plane out of pitching? The San Diego Padres are down bad right now, their offseason taken hostage by an ownership dispute after whiffing on Roki Sasaki,” Landers wrote. “The team might need to shed some money before it can spend some money, and that means that just about anyone with two or fewer years of team control left is reportedly on the trading block.

“Boston can work this situation to its advantage in more ways than one. The bullpen remains a definite need, with Aroldis Chapman and Liam Hendriks currently the most proven high-leverage options at Alex Cora’s disposal. And while the rotation is pretty full after acquiring Crochet and Buehler earlier this winter, building a package around, say, Kutter Crawford and Vaughn Grissom plus another piece or two would give this pitching staff a huge shot in the arm.”

The Yankees traded King to the Padres in the package to land Juan Soto. The Red Sox could look to acquire the former Yankee in a move that could make New York regret trading the pitcher even more.

Suarez is one of the top relievers in the entire league. If the Red Sox can acquire him, their bullpen would take a huge step in the right direction.

This would be quite a costly trade for Boston, but it has the farm system to deal from in order to acquire this kind of talent.
