Game Changer: Center Ben Brown is Transforming the Patriots’ Offensive Line

Since being signed off the Raiders’ practice squad, Ben Brown has brought energy and consistency to the Patriots’ offensive line. After Brown’s impressive debut in Week 6 against the Houston Texans, New England released offensive lineman Nick Leverett, who started one game at center following David Andrews’ season-ending injury. The Patriots’ offensive line has struggled this year, dealing with multiple injuries and lackluster pass protection.

So far, the team has trotted out six different O-line groupings since the season began. However, after their Week 8 victory against AFC rival New York Jets, it appears that they are beginning to find their footing. Brown played every offensive snap in Week 6 and didn’t allow a single sack or QB hit in the 41-21 Patriots loss to the Houston Texans. Appearing on WEEI after the game, head coach Jerod Mayo said of Brown “I thought he did a great job…

To only be here for five days and go out and play like that was special.” What makes Ben Brown’s performance even more remarkable is that he’s only recently stepped into a significant role in the NFL. After spending most of his rookie season on injured reserve due to a bicep injury, Brown has bounced back with impressive determination, showcasing his skills on the field when it matters most.

Although the Patriots lost again in Week 7, Brown had another stellar performance at center, providing solid protection as rookie QB Drake Maye had zero interceptions on the day.

Again, Brown provided solid pass protection in Week 8 as the Patriots snapped their six game losing streak with a thrilling 25-22 victory over the New York Jets. The Pats threw zero interceptions on the day, a testament to Brown’s crucial role in keeping the pocket secure. So far, the 26-year-old has played in three games (193 Offensive Snaps), allowing six pressures, two sacks, and one QB hit.

#Patriots C Ben Brown since being signed off the #Raiders practice squad:

• 3 Games Played (193 Offensive Snaps)

• 6 Pressures Allowed

• 2 Sacks Allowed

• 1 QB Hit Allowed

• 1 Penalty Brown has brought energy and consistency to the line – good find by the front office

While these numbers may not scream “All-Star,” they represent a significant improvement for a struggling Patriots offensive line. Signing Ben Brown has clearly been a savvy move for the team, providing much-needed depth to a battered roster and bolstering their chances in the games ahead.
