BREAKING NEWS: Braves sign Jurickson Profar to three-year, $42 million deal

The Atlanta Braves have finally made the splashy signing that fans and observers alike have been waiting for.

For once, we have a situation where a free agent is coming to the Atlanta Braves instead of saying goodbye. Indeed, the Braves have made one of their biggest free agency splashes in recent memory after going out and signing OF Jurickson Profar to a deal. Robert Murray of FanSided was the first to report the news.

Profar is coming off of a career year in a contract season, as he hit .280/.380/.459 with a .365 wOBA (.364 xwOBA), 24 home runs and a 139 wRC+. His performance in 2024 was a markedly massive improvement from how he fared in 2023, which is when he played 111 miserable games with the Rockies before returning to the Padres and looking like his normal self again.

As far as the Braves go, this is quite obviously a big deal since they’ve addressed one of their main issues. With Ronald Acuña Jr. not returning immediately, the outfield needed to be reinforced and this is a very solid way for Atlanta to go about doing so. If Profar picks up in 2025 where he left off in 2024 then the outfield for the Braves just became yet another position of strength for this team.

UPDATE (5:30 p.m. ET) — The Braves have officially announced the deal. It’s three years and $42 million — $12 million in 2025 and $15 million for both of the following two seasons. Naturally, he’s donating 1 percent of his salary to the Atlanta Braves Foundation, as well. Connor Gillispie has been designated for assignment in order to make room on the 40-man roster.
