Bregman might be Boston-bound

Bregman has been attached to Boston in rumors since the 2024 MLB season ended, but there hasn’t been a ton of concrete reporting on the star third baseman over his two-plus months on the open market. But Wednesday on MLB Network, the New York Post’s Jon Heyman might have provided the most significant insight on Bregman yet.
“Bregman is an interesting one,” Heyman said on “Hot Stove. “I do believe it’s gonna work out great for him because right now I’m hearing there are five teams in it. I’m not sure exactly who the five teams are, but most likely, probably is the Red Sox. I understand he likely would have to play second base and he’d be willing to do it. … I think he fits them. They have not made a big signing at this point. … To me, I think they’re the most likely at this moment to sign Alex Bregman.”
Like Hyeman outlined, Bregman’s willingness to play on the other side of the diamond creates a better fit in Boston. The two-time World Series champion could provide the club with stability at a position where there’s been a revolving door for years. Bregman also swings an impactful right-handed bat that the Red Sox lineup could really use.
Throw in the 30-year-old’s history with Alex Cora, his championship pedigree and veteran leadership, and Bregman certainly fits the mold of a kind of player who should be drawing interest from Craig Breslow and company.
