Lubbock boy attends Chiefs’ playoff game, surprised by players at dinner

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Braxton Deleon is a die-hard Kansas City Chiefs fan. Growing up in Lubbock means he’s had plenty of opportunities to cheer on Patrick Mahomes and his team on TV.

His dream was to attend a game at Arrowhead Stadium. That dream would come true.

His father, Christian, decided at the last minute to purchase tickets to the Chiefs’ divisional-round game against the Houston Texans for Braxton’s birthday.

“Whenever I got to Arrowhead, it was packed, and then whenever I got in the stadium, I was just happy to step foot at Arrowhead,” Braxton said.

Braxton’s ninth birthday turned out to be pretty successful, as the Chiefs defeated the Texans, 23-14. He describes the atmosphere in the stands on his special day.

“It felt really great because when everyone’s telling me happy birthday at the game, it gets me really pumped up for the game.”

After the game, Christian and Braxton sat at a local restaurant, when someone noticed Braxton had a birthday pin on, along with his Chiefs gear.

That someone was Chiefs safety Deon Bush, who struck up a conversation with Braxton and even called up his teammate Justin Reid to wish Braxton a happy birthday.

“It was just a really cool experience to see a player like up close to me when we were eating and stuff on my birthday too,” Braxton said. “He just told me happy birthday and I was just freaking out because it was so exciting at the moment.”

Christian says he didn’t expect the weekend to go exactly how it did, but he couldn’t be happier.

“It just seemed like everything fell in our laps perfectly and just the feeling of a parent, you can’t replace it,” Christian said. “The memories are priceless, the moments are priceless and it’s definitely something he and I will remember forever.”

And Braxton says he’s happy his dream to step inside Arrowhead came true.

“It was super cool, especially on my birthday,” Braxton said. “It was the best birthday and it was the best birthday present ever.”
