Longtime Red Sox player and coach Rich Gedman is switching roles.

The 65-year-old Worcester native who caught for Boston from 1980-1990 now serve as a player development hitting advisor after spending 10 seasons as the Triple-A hitting coach.

The Red Sox hired Collin Hetzler as Triple-A Worcester’s new hitting coach. He spent four seasons in the Mets’ organization, including as Triple-A Syracuse’s hitting coach the past two seasons. He will join Doug Clark as co-hitting coaches.

Boston also promoted Iggy Suarez from the manager at High-A Greenville to Worcester’s defensive coach.

Dan DeLucia will return as WooSox pitching coach and Noah Junis will return as bullpen coach at Worcester.

Liam Carroll will replace Suarez as Greenville’s manager. He previously served as Low-A Salem’s manager.

Ozzie Chavez, who was Salem’s bench coach, has been promoted to Drive manager.

Chad Epperson will return as Double-A Portland’s manager.

The Red Sox also announced they have promoted Worcester native Brian Abraham from director of player development to senior director of player development. The Holy Cross grad began working in the organization as a bullpen catcher.

He was a bullpen catcher for the 2013 World Series champion Red Sox, which had now-chief baseball officer Craig Breslow as a relief pitcher.
