Following the Dallas Cowboys’ decision to split with former head coach Mike McCarthy, all eyes shifted to one name – Deion Sanders.
While Sanders has been adamant about his desire to remain with the Colorado Buffaloes, no hire would come close to creating as many headlines for the Cowboys. It’s unknown if owner Jerry Jones will continue to push to pursue Sanders, but he has made at least one attempt thus far.
Sanders may remain steadfast in his desire to stay in Boulder, or the allure of continuing his meteoric coaching rise by taking over the team he starred for will prove too much to resist.
However, there’s more in play here for the 57-year-old, as his son and Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders is expected to be one of the first quarterbacks selected in the 2025 NFL Draft.
So, what does Sanders think about the possibility of his father landing one of the highest-profile coaching jobs in sports?

What do you think?” Sanders told Townsend. Sanders returning to Dallas, where he won a Super Bowl and was named NFL First-Team All-Pro three times, would undoubtedly classify as cool.
Sanders admitted to ESPN’s Adam Schefter that he heard from Jones and called the opportunity to coach the Cowboys “intriguing” twice, as ESPN’s Todd Archer reported. “To hear from Jerry Jones is truly delightful, and it’s intriguing,” Sanders told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday night.
“I love Jerry and believe in Jerry. After you hang up and process it, and think about it, it’s intriguing.
But I love Boulder and everything there is about our team, the coaches, our student body and the community.”
One significant potential roadblock that goes beyond Sanders stating his appreciation of his current job is the rumblings he’d possibly consider a jump to the NFL if it meant continuing to coach his sons Shedeur and safety Shilo.
Not only is Shedeur expected to be off the board before the Cowboys pick in this year’s draft, but they also signed quarterback Dak Prescott to the NFL’s richest contract in NFL history.
Prescott’s four-year, $240 million deal will keep him in Dallas through the 2028 season.
