The Kansas City Chiefs clinched the No. 1 seed in the AFC, securing a first-round bye and home field advantage in the playoffs. The bye week turned out to be quite eventful for Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, as his wife, Brittany Mahomes, gave birth to their third child. Mahomes and Brittany announced they welcomed their second daughter, Golden Raye, on Jan. 12. The famous couple are already parents to Sterling Skye, 3, and Patrick “Bronze” Lavon, 2.
The new father of three retuned to practice on Tuesday. Next up, Mahomes and Co. prepare to face the Houston Texans in the AFC divisional round on Saturday. The Texans entered the wild card round as underdogs, however, they crushed the Los Angeles Chargers 31-12 at NRG Stadium. While the 29-year-old quarterback might’ve been understandably distracted over wild card weekend amid Golden’s birth, Mahomes revealed that he actually kept a good eye on the Chiefs’ upcoming opponent.
“It was cool that football was on TV in the hospital so I could watch a little bit,” Mahomes said. “Brittany was kind enough to let us watch football as we had our second daughter.” One woman posted, “She’s an icon for that.” Another person commented, “locked in.” Mahomes and Brittany announced they were pregnant with baby No. 3 during training camp. At the time, Mahomes didn’t hesitate to say that this child would be their last. “I’m done. I’ll say that. I did three and I’m done,” he told reporters with a smile.
However, the three-time Super Bowl MVP seems to have changed his mind since Golden’s birth.
“I’m good with three kids right now, we’ll see down the line,” he said. “My goal was always three so we’ve had three and we’ll sit there for a while and see if we need another one later on.” At the moment, Mahomes is focused on winning a historic Super Bowl three-peat, which starts with defeating the Texans on Jan. 18 at 4:30 p.m. ET.
