Braves’ Ozzie Albies spent winter storm swimming with fish outdoors (no, seriously)

Milwaukee Brewers v Atlanta Braves

In addition to being one of the most talented rosters in baseball, the Atlanta Braves are also arguably the team with the most personality in all of baseball. Season specific celebrations and mottos are commonplace and these guys clearly play with a lot of energy and have a ton of fun playing each day (well, most days anyways).

A key part of the Braves’ energy is Ozzie Albies. Not only is he one of the best players Atlanta has on their roster period especially when he is healthy, his antics with buddy Ronald Acuna Jr. and general playfulness has been evident since he got called up to the big leagues back in 2017.

Despite it being the offseason, Albies is still looking for ways to enjoy himself on a day to day basis on his own terms. In fact, when the recent winter storm blew through the Atlanta area, Albies decided to take a swim in the frigid temperatures with his beloved fish which was…certainly a choice.

This may require a bit of background for those that are unaware. Going back to his early life living in Curacao, Albies loves keeping and caring for fish. His Atlanta-area home features multiple smaller tanks inside and then a big (thankfully heated) pool outside that clearly houses a whole bunch of koi. Amongst hobbies of big leaguers, Albies’ fish habit is definitely among the more specific and unique.

With the storm coming through, one would expect Albies to check in on his fish and making sure they were safe of course. However, deciding the strip down and jump into the pool with the fish with the rest of his backyard frozen over was a wild and decidedly Ozzie choice to make.

After a tough season where he dealt with a wrist injury and couldn’t quite replicate his previous success, it is nice to see Albies enjoying himself despite the brutal weather in Georgia. The fish seem to be quite happy and well-cared for and Ozzie is obviously having a blast. One hopes that the downtime for Albies and the rest of the Braves’ battered roster serves them well and they get back to being one of the best teams in baseball in 2025.
