Facing a deadline to come to terms on 2025 salaries and avoid arbitration with four key players, the Red Sox have gotten three deals done so far with one emerging star still in limbo.

According to multiple baseball sources, Boston has agreed to terms with three starting pitchers — Tanner Houck ($3.95 million), Garrett Crochet ($3.8 million) and Kutter Crawford ($2.75 million) — on one-year deals for next season. The Red Sox have not been able to come to terms with outfielder Jarren Duran to this point and it remains possible that they go to an arbitration hearing with him. The sides had a soft 1 p.m. ET deadline to agree to terms but negotiations may continue up until 8 p.m. ET, when they’d have to file arbitration numbers with the league.

So far, Crochet’s agreement is the most notable for Boston. The lefty, who was acquired in a five-player blockbuster deal with the White Sox last month, was somewhat hard to value because the early part of career has been a unique one, including a dominant first season as a starter in 2025. He received more ($3.9 million) than his projected salary (via MLBTradeRumors) of $2.9 million. It could be seen as a show of good faith by the Red Sox, who want to sign Crochet (under control for two years) to a long-term extension and have already begun preliminary efforts to that end.

Houck, arbitration-eligible for the first time after a career season, got $3.95 million, a tick lower than his MLBTR projection of $4.5 million. He’s under team control for three more years. Duran and Crawford are both Super Two players who were rewarded a fourth arbitration year due to service time. Crawford was projected to take home $3.5 million; his real salary came in lower than that. Duran’s projection was $4.9 million but no deal is done yet. Both players are under Red Sox control through 2028.

Any agreements do not mean the Red Sox can’t work on long-term extensions with the players who signed them. Crochet is a clear priority in that regard and Houck, Crawford and Duran are all candidates for long-term deals before spring training. Talks can happen at any time. Thursday’s agreements can be ripped up if a longer-term deal includes a greater 2025 salary and the Red Sox, who would likely be interested in lowering the average annual value (and competitive balance tax threshold hits) over the course of a long-term deal, would be incentivized to do so.
