49ers promote an in-house candidate to offensive coordinator

The San Francisco 49ers didn’t struggle moving the ball offensively in 2024. Tight end George Kittle referenced how the Niners were in the top five most weeks when it came to moving the ball.

The problems arose when it was time to put points on the scoreboard. The red zone issues were a struggle. That can be attributed to the team’s lack of running the ball or a consistent threat in the red area.

One could argue Kittle is the weapon and should have received numerous targets, but we can save that discussion for another day.

During their press conference, head coach Kyle Shanahan promoted Klay Kubiak to offensive coordinator. Shanahan will continue calling the plays, but Kubiak will be the offensive coordinator in title.

Kubiak will be the second offensive coordinator under Shanahan and the first since Mike McDaniel back in 2021.

Shanahan, Kubiak, and the organization will benefit from this title. For Kubiak, it will lead to several interviews down the line and potential head coaching interviews if the 49ers offense returns to its top five ways.

Shanahan, while still calling plays, could pass off more to Kubiak. The red zone is an option, as are a dozen other areas that Kubiak could help take off Shanahan’s plate. It’s not the coordinator news we were expecting, but Shanahan took a step back, realized he needed either a change or help and did so. That’s a positive sign.

BREAKING: DOJ Reportedly Opens Investigation Into NFL Over Alleged Anti-Competitive Media Rights Practices 🚨 The U.S. Department of Justice is reportedly examining whether the NFL’s broadcasting and streaming structure may be limiting competition and driving up costs for fans. Lawmakers, including Senator Mike Lee, have raised concerns that the current media rights system forces fans to juggle multiple subscriptions — in some cases paying over $1,000 per season just to follow the full NFL schedule. The NFL responded by defending its model, stating that more than 87% of games remain on free broadcast TV and emphasizing record-breaking viewership numbers in recent seasons. While nothing has been proven, the investigation has already sparked major debate across the league — and Cowboys Nation is watching closely. 🏈🔥
