Braves Could Trade For $34 Million Star Infielder After Bombshell Report

The Toronto Blue Jays and star shortstop Bo Bichette haven’t come to a contract extension this offseason, so trade rumors have run rampant around the young shortstop. While the Blue Jays haven’t outwardly said they’re shopping Bichette, it would be hard to believe they’re not listening to offers on him.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today recently reported the Blue Jays’ young shortstop is “as good as gone,” which could incline Toronto to deal the 26-year-old. “This is the final year before Vladimir Guerrero and Bo Bichette leave town as free agents,” Nightengale wrote. “Bichette is as good as gone, with no real interest in returning, friends say.”

Among the teams who could be interested in Bichette, the Atlanta Braves stand out. Atlanta is a serious contender for the World Series year in and year out, but it seemed like it was an afterthought in 2024. Almost everybody in their lineup had an off season, not to mention the injuries to Ronald Acuña Jr. and Spencer Strider.

Among the entire roster, Orlando Arcia stuck out like a sore thumb for his poor performance. Adding Bichette to replace Arcia would be a huge move for the Braves. Atlanta even has the money to realistically extend Bichette before, during, or after the 2025 season.

If the young shortstop is truly as good as gone, the Blue Jays would be foolish not to trade him. Dealing him to Atlanta could net Toronto a pair of young pitchers. Hurston Waldrep, AJ Smith-Shawver, Bryce Elder, and a few other pitchers come to mind as trade candidates.
