In an announcement that came as a shock to a lot of fans, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was not included in the roster of players for the 2025 AFC Pro Bowl.
For the first time since he became the starting quarterback of the Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes was left out of the Pro Bowl roster. In a recent episode of “Fearless ,” Jason Whitlock thinks that the exclusion makes sense, and is “not criminal.”
“Patrick Mahomes did not make the AFC Pro Bowl team and you know what, it’s not even criminal,” Whitlock said. “It’s not even criminal that they picked the three most deserving quarterbacks. Look, I know the Pro Bowl is the thing of the past and you know it’s some kind of skills competition and it really doesn’t matter.”
He then went on to explain in detail how the three chosen QBs—Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, and Joe Burrow—all have statistically better seasons than Mahomes.
Still, Whitlock thinks that the exclusion could serve as a motivation for Mahomes and the Chiefs to take their game further and grab the Super Bowl three-peat that a lot of fans have predicted for them this season.
“[However], just the whole distinction that Patrick Mahomes is not considered one of the three best quarterbacks in the NFL or in the AFC this year—that’s amazing. That’s the type of motivation that I think is going to have Patrick Mahomes take his play to the next level and guarantee a Chiefs three-peat.”
“I think we’re going to see an incredible stretch of play from Mahomes and the Chiefs offense and he’s going to put to bed [all the issues and say], look there are no Rivals to me as the quarterback of this era.”
Reasons for Patrick Mahomes not Making Pro Bowl, Outlined
For a lot of fans, a starter quarterback of a team going 15-1 not making the Pro Bowl roster may sound like something unbelievable. However, a closer look at the analytics of Patrick Mahomes’ performance this season gives an insight on the reality of his individual performance.
As highlighted by Pro Football Network , one of the primary reasons Mahomes was snubbed for the Pro Bowl may be the fact that this has been an underwhelming season for him, statistically, compared to previous seasons. Even his best game this season, which was in Week 8 against the Raiders, is underwhelming compared to his past season-high games.
Lastly, compared to the other quarterbacks listed, Patrick Mahomes simply had a less stellar season compared to other QBs who made the Pro Bowl.
