New York Post | Joel Sherman ($): Some of baseball’s biggest behemoths look like they are in the National League … hey, Dodgers, Phillies, et al. But in the American League, despite the loss of Juan Soto, the Yankees may be the cream of the crop. They’ve been active since Soto left for the Mets, while much of the AL has stood pat this offseason. Those additions have them presumably at the forefront of the AL, though they’re not exactly lapping the field or anything.
MLB Trade Rumors | Mark Polishuk: Speaking of those Yankee moves, a couple of them have the potential to improve a position that Polishuk identifies as New York’s weakest. With the trade for Cody Bellinger and the free agent signing of Paul Goldschmidt, the Yanks have fortified first base, a position that has not been the same since Anthony Rizzo’s 2023 injury. The Yankees received -0.1 rWAR at first last season, so the bar for improvement is not exactly high.
USA Today | Gabe Lacques: Now, for a move the Yankees could still make. In a piece that looks at the one thing each MLB team could do, Lacques argues New York should sign Jurickson Profar, who had a spectacular 2024 season in San Diego. Profar provides versatility and value both at the dish as a switch-hitter and in the field, where he played first base and left field in 2024. For his career, Profar has played everywhere in the field except catcher.
