Red Sox Could Sign Silver Slugger Outfielder to Provide Offensive Spark

The Boston Red Sox have reshaped their pitching ahead of the 2025 season, but the offense is still looking questionable. Given the current structure of the Red Sox lineup, the team would prefer to add right-handed bats. This would help create some balance. Corner outfield is an area of the roster that could use an upgrade (or two). This leads to one Silver Slugger outfielder potentially being the right fi

Jurickson Profar spent the last season and a half with the San Diego Padres. He hit .280 in 2024 in a full year with the Padres after hitting .295 in 14 games at the end of the 2023 season. The most recent season landed him a spot in the MLB All-Star Game as he set new career highs in both home runs (24) and RBI (85). Profar’s market value is set at $12.9 million with an expected two-year contract at $25.8 million. There is a chance a team gets extra aggressive and tacks on a third year to the deal, and it is something the Red Sox should consider.

Baseball Savant shows Profar to be one of the best all-around hitters. He is in the 80th percentile or above in seven different offensive stats including exit velocity, walk rate and strikeout rate. To put it simply, Profar is an on-base machine. This is a move that makes a lot of sense for the Red Sox. His defense is right around league average, but he would give the team a huge boost offensively. If his swing continues to look the way it did last season, lots and lots of home runs would be flying over the Green Monster.
