Mike McCarthy Starting to Show Annoyance With Dak Prescott as Cowboys’ Season Goes South

After having the best season of his career last year and finishing second in MVP voting, Cowboys QB Dak Prescott is off to a very disappointing start. The disappointing defense under new coordinator Mike Zimmer is rightfully getting most of the attention, but the Cowboys offense has been far from impressive all season.

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy finally voiced his frustration about the situation. According to Cowboys insider Calvin Watkins, McCarthy said that he is very frustrated with the team being -8 in turnover ratio.

Through seven games, the Cowboys have 13 turnovers (nine interceptions and four fumbles lost). On the other end of the field, they have only forced five turnovers (four interceptions and one fumble won).

This is in stark contrast to the Cowboys from a season ago. In 2023, Dallas had 26 takeaways while only turning it over 16 times. The Cowboys are on pace to more than double their number of turnovers from last year.

Prescott himself had only nine interceptions all of last year and he already has eight so far. His TD: Int ratio of 36:9 is all the way down to 10:8 right now.

Blaming the players is the easy way out. This is the same group that won 12 games in each of the last three seasons. There is plenty of talent on this team to be this bad on both ends of the field.

It is the coaching staff’s job to put the players in a position to succeed and the front office’s responsibility to bring talent into the building. It’s safe to say that the Cowboys have failed in both of those aspects, resulting in the underwhelming production of the players, including Prescott.
