The Dallas Cowboys have one more game left in the 2024 season, and it might be the time we finally get to see Trey Lance start.
While there is still a lot of water to go under that bridge, with Cooper Rush still firming as the starter against the Washington Commanders.
But in reality, there isn’t a better time to give Lance the keys to the offense and let him rip it loose in a meaningless game at AT&T Stadium.
But Lance’s failure to see the field despite Rush’s shortcomings this season likely says as much about the Cowboys’ front office as it does about Lance’s ability as a starting-caliber player. However, wanting Lance to start and being “good enough” to start are two different things.
But does he feel he’s ready if he’s called upon?
“Yeah, absolutely, no doubt,” Lance said, speaking out on his self-belief. “I think if you don’t think that about yourself, then you’ve got no chance.
And I truly believe that in my heart.
I feel like it’s just where you drive your confidence from, what you have your faith in, and I feel like I’ve worked to this point to get to this point and I’m not going to stop until that opportunity comes and I’m able to make the most of it.”
With so much noise surrounding Lance not seeing the field, given we were told of the “Trey Lance package,” Dallas invested a fourth-round pick in Trey, it would make total sense to see him against Washington, right?
But as we know, the Cowboys and sensible decisions don’t necessarily go hand-in-hand, and there won’t be a better chance to evaluate the play of Lance than against the Commanders in a meaningless season finale Lance should start, but whether he does is up to the powers that be.
But let it be known – if he’s given the chance, he’s ready to take it.
