Craig Breslow on Monday made it clear the Red Sox are interested in adding a right-handed bat to balance out their lineup.

Could Alex Bregman fulfill that objective for Boston?

Bregman has been attached to the Red Sox in rumors since the start of the MLB offseason, and he’s very familiar with manager Alex Cora. But even though Bregman would bolster Boston’s offense and improve its infield defense, it doesn’t sound like the star third baseman will become a fixture at Fenway Park.

“Bregman fits the right-handed bat. I just don’t know if that’s the most likely scenario for Bregman,” FanSided’s Robert Murray said on the latest episode of “The Baseball Insiders.”

The majority of reports indicate Bregman is looking for a long-term contract (six, seven years) that could approach or even exceed $200 million in total value. That might not be viewed as a practical measure in Boston, where the Red Sox are leaning into their youth movement. Bregman will turn 31 at the start of the regular season.
