Well another day of no Braves’ transactions of note has passed, as the market continues to thin. I am feeling more and more like whatever happens of significance (which I still believe will happen) may come via the trade route, rather than free agency, as would be fairly on-brand for Alex Anthopoulos.
I do also want to mention, now that Corbin Burnes has signed, that Max Fried somehow ended up with the largest total value pitching contract of the offseason, beating Cy Young winners Corbin Burnes and Blake Snell. Burnes and Snell did land higher AAV deals, but both had significant deferrals as well. You have to feel good for Max that he was able to negotiate his position so well and get a huge payday.

We took a look back at Marcell Ozuna’s 2024 season, in which he carried the Atlanta offense for a large part of the year.
The Athletic’s David O’Brien gave a fairly lukewarm take on his expectations for the Braves the rest of the offseason.
MLB News
In quite surprising news, the Arizona Diamondbacks signed Corbin Burnes to a 6 year, $210 million deal with deferrals, which is surprising both in that it was Arizona, who now has a pretty scary rotation, and that it was not for more money, leaving Max Fried’s deal as the largest pitcher deal of the offseason.
The Yankees reportedly did not make an offer to bring back Gleyber Torres, even as he had multiple offers from up-and-coming teams.
The Giants are reportedly discussing signing first baseman and all-Home Run Derby slugger Pete Alonso.
