RUMORS: Dodgers Reportedly Considering Anthony Santander …

The Los Angeles Dodgers are considering other outfield options aside from free agent Teoscar Hernández. Anthony Santander is one alternative for the Dodgers this offseason, according to MLB insider Jon Heyman.

The Baltimore Orioles outfielder had a phenomenal 2024 season, hitting .235 with 44 home runs and 102 runs batted in. Santander, a career .246 hitter, helped the Orioles reach the postseason in back to back seasons in 2023 and 2024.

Dodgers Reportedly Considering Anthony Santander Instead of Tesocar Hernandez | Dodgers Nation

Santander, 30, has spent his entire career with the Orioles since he made his major league debut in 2017, but there’s a chance he could be joining the National League this offseason. Santander is expected to land a $100 million contract this winter.

The Dodgers and Hernández seemed headed for a reunion after the outfielder had an outstanding performance in his first season with the team.

Hernández repeatedly said he hoped to return to the Dodgers this winter, but the narrative has since changed. The contract negotiations between the Dodgers and Hernández have reached a point of contention. While the two parties have stalled negotiations because of money, both sides are considering other options.

The Dodgers are considering other options such as signing Santander or trading for Seiya Suzuki. Meanwhile, Hernández has reportedly considered joining the Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox, or Seattle Mariners. Hernández had a storybook season with the Dodgers. From winning the Home Run Derby to becoming a World Series champion, it was a memorable performance.

Free agency is far from a fairy tale, though. Reality sets in as the business side of baseball is never more apparent than in the winter. While Hernández was once a beloved and respected figure in the clubhouse, he seems like a distant stranger at this point in the offseason. Though negotiations have stalled, there’s a chance the Dodgers and Hernández eventually get a deal done.
