Yankees Predicted To Move $37 Million Pitcher In Blockbuster Offseason Trade

The New York Yankees may look like a completely different team in 2025 compared to the roster that took the Bronx Bombers to the World Series this year. The Yankees have already added players like Fernando Cruz, Max Fried, Devin Williams, Cody Bellinger, and Paul Goldschmidt. They’ve also cut ties with Jose Trevino and Gleyber Torres while watching Juan Soto walk out the door in free agency.

There could be more Yankees players headed out the door this winter as well. Zachary Rotman of FanSided predicted the Yankees would trade starting pitcher Marcus Stroman this winter as a follow-up move to letting Torres walk in free agency. New York has reportedly shopped the righty, but nothing has come to fruition yet.

“By signing Max Fried, the Yankees had seven MLB-caliber starters. Trading Nestor Cortes bumped that total down to six, but the Yankees still don’t need to run with a six-man rotation,” Rotman wrote. “With how valuable starting pitching is, there absolutely will be a team out there willing to take a chance on Stroman who has a solid track record. Trading him to a team in need of a starter and replacing his roster spot with a better fit makes too much sense.”

Stroman will be the odd man out in 2025 just like he was in the 2024 postseason. With that in mind, the Yankees could trade him to another contending team in a very similar deal to the Nester Cortes trade that brought Williams to the Bronx.

A team like the Detroit Tigers could use a pitcher like Stroman. The Yankees could package a prospect with the righty to acquire a hitter like Jace Jung or Spencer Torkelson.
