Most probably thought the Patriots were bound for a seventh straight loss when Drake Maye exited Sunday’s game in the second quarter at Gillette Stadium.

But one week after New England was called “soft” by its head coach, the players showed a ton of heart and clawed to their first win since Week 1.

Rallying behind backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett, who made his first appearance since Week 5, the Patriots secured an exciting 25-22 win over the rival New York Jets. The victory marked the most points scored by New England this season to date, and it was a significant morale booster for the organization after Maye sustained an injury.

The rookie signal-caller stayed locked into the Week 8 contest after he went down, and he expressed his excitement about the victory on social media.

“How about the fellas!!” Maye captioned his Instagram story post, which featured a photo of Rhamondre Stevenson after scoring the game-winning touchdown.

Jerod Mayo after the game revealed Maye entered the NFL’s concussion protocol and will need to check the appropriate boxes before returning to the field. Thus, it’s unclear when the 22-year-old might be able to slot back behind center.

The Patriots will next take the field Sunday when they visit the 1-6 Tennessee Titans. If Maye is unable to suit up, Brissett will make his sixth start of the season in Nashville.
