The Buffalo Bills are reportedly expected to bring several veteran free agents into the building when OTA workouts resume on May 18 as the organization continues searching for final roster upgrades before training camp.
After rookie minicamp created new depth-chart battles across the roster, Buffalo appears focused on adding more experience, leadership, and proven production at key positions.
Jadeveon Clowney Could Finally Give Buffalo Another Proven Pass Rusher
One of the biggest names linked to Buffalo is former three-time Pro Bowl EDGE Jadeveon Clowney.
Despite being 32 years old, Clowney remains productive after recording 8.5 sacks during the 2025 season. Over the last three years, he has totaled 23.5 sacks and continues to provide consistent pressure off the edge.
The Bills reportedly view him as a veteran who could immediately strengthen a defensive front still searching for more reliable sack production entering 2026.
Greg Gaines Seen as Potential Run Defense Upgrade
Buffalo is also reportedly interested in veteran defensive tackle Greg Gaines ahead of OTAs.
At 6-foot-1 and 312 pounds, Gaines brings experience and physicality inside after appearing in 108 NFL games during his career.
The Bills added pass-rush-focused defensive linemen during the draft, but league insiders believe the organization still wants another proven run-stuffing presence in the middle of the defense.
Germaine Pratt Could Add Physicality at Linebacker
Another veteran name generating attention is linebacker Germaine Pratt.
The former starter is coming off a strong 2025 campaign that included 101 tackles and eight passes defended.
Buffalo reportedly values Pratt’s size, downhill tackling ability, and run defense as the team looks to become more physical in the middle of the field alongside Terrel Bernard and Dorian Williams.
Matt Prater May Push Tyler Bass for Kicker Job
The Bills could also create one of training camp’s most surprising competitions by inviting veteran kicker Matt Prater to OTAs.
Prater converted 90 percent of his field goals during the 2025 season and remains one of the NFL’s most respected veteran specialists.
Meanwhile, Tyler Bass has faced increasing pressure after inconsistent stretches over the past two years, leading many around the league to believe Buffalo wants legitimate competition at the position.
One AFC executive reportedly summarized Buffalo’s mindset clearly:
“This team believes the Super Bowl window is open right now. They’re searching for veterans who can help immediately.”
With OTAs resuming May 18, the Buffalo Bills appear determined to leave no weakness untouched before the 2026 season begins.
