😱 BREAKING : 49ers pull off another jaw-dropping steal — a 6’5”, 230-lb K.J. Wright clone snatched in the 5th round has insiders buzzing and rivals sweating as a new defensive nightmare quietly loads up, the league isn’t ready for what’s coming next 👇👇👇

The similarities are striking.

While much of the national conversation after the 2026 NFL Draft centered on what the San Francisco 49ers didn’t do, the organization quietly added a player who could develop into one of the draft’s most intriguing long-term steals: linebacker Jaden Dugger, selected in the fifth round out of Louisiana.

At first glance, Dugger’s profile jumps off the page for its rarity. Standing 6-foot-5 and weighing 230 pounds, he possesses an imposing frame that immediately draws comparisons to his new position coach, K.J. Wright. As Matt Barrows of The Athletic highlighted in his draft analysis, the physical and stylistic overlap between the two is striking.

Wright, a former standout linebacker for the Seattle Seahawks, measured 6-foot-4 and 246 pounds during his playing days. Dugger comes in just an inch taller but slightly lighter at 230 pounds—still well above the typical linebacker build. For context, Fred Warner checks in at 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds, while Dre Greenlaw stands 6-foot and 230 pounds. Dugger’s combination of height, length, and athleticism gives him a unique tool set that stands out even in today’s pass-heavy league.

The fit with Wright appears natural. As a player, Wright carved out a highly productive career despite (or perhaps because of) his atypical size for the position. He anchored the Seahawks’ defense for years, earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2016, and showcased the versatility and intelligence required to thrive at that stature. Now in his first season as the 49ers’ linebackers coach, Wright is uniquely positioned to mentor a prospect who mirrors his own physical traits.

San Francisco’s current linebacker room features established starters in Warner and Greenlaw, with depth pieces including Tatum Bethune, Nick Martin, Garret Wallow, and Luke Gifford. Dugger won’t be asked to start immediately, but his development path looks promising. Barrows noted that Dugger’s size could make him a particularly effective matchup weapon against opposing tight ends—a clear area of need for the 49ers, who struggled to contain bigger-bodied pass-catchers in the previous season.

Beyond coverage, Dugger brings pass-rush potential. He recorded 64 solo tackles and four sacks in his final college season. Defensive line coach Kris Kocurek and defensive coordinator Raheem Morris are expected to explore creative ways to deploy his length and burst, whether as a traditional off-ball linebacker, a situational edge rusher, or in specialized packages designed to disrupt opposing quarterbacks.

The 49ers have a well-earned reputation for unearthing hidden gems in the middle and later rounds, and Dugger fits that mold. His combination of rare physical measurements and production at the collegiate level suggests he has the raw materials to become a meaningful contributor. With Wright guiding his development—potentially for several years if the coach continues his upward trajectory in the organization—the partnership could yield significant results.

While it may be premature to label Dugger a future star, the 49ers have once again found a player whose traits don’t show up on every draft board. In a league that increasingly values versatility and mismatch creation, a 6’5″, 230-pound linebacker with the right coaching could quietly become a problem for offenses across the NFC West and beyond.

The rest of the league may not have noticed on draft weekend. But the 49ers just might have stolen exactly what they needed—again.
