NFL Insider Speaks Out About Rumors Of Jerod Mayo’s Future

The New England Patriots are wrapping up another lost season, though this one should have been expected given all the change in the offseason.

In the first year without Bill Belichick, the Patriots predictably struggled with first-time head coach Jerod Mayo and a young roster.

Mayo walked into a tough situation given the lack of high-end talent, though some have started to wonder about his future.

Losing is never fun, and NFL owners can be impatient when it comes to waiting for results.

While rumors begin to swirl about Mayo’s viability as New England’s head coach, one insider is reporting that the organization isn’t looking to make a change.

“Source on Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo and whether there’s been any thought on Mayo’s tenure ending with a one-year run: ‘There was never any consideration to this. The Lions started 3-13 the first year under Dan Campbell, then started 1-6 the next and people were calling for his head. Plus, what was going on before Mayo became head coach too? Patience is a virtue,’” Josina Anderson wrote on X.

There are several examples of first-time head coaches struggling before finally seeing positive on-field results, so it’s probably best for the Patriots to exercise patience.

Mayo hasn’t been perfect, though it’s far too early to rule him out.

With a year of experience under his belt, and smart acquisitions this offseason, there’s a path for New England to get back to its winning ways.
