The Dallas Cowboys haven’t had the season their fans hoped for.
The Cowboys likely aren’t going to make the playoffs this season, and given how much money they’ve committed to just Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb — not to mention Micah Parsons’ likely upcoming contract extension — retooling the roster looks like an uphill climb.
Moreover, there have been plenty of doubts about head coach Mike McCarthy.
However, there reportedly haven’t been any talks regarding his future with the organization.
“Though I’m told emotions swing daily, my understanding is there’s currently been no earnest discussions or planning on the future of head coach Mike McCarthy with the Dallas Cowboys,” insider Josina Anderson wrote on X.
For the time being, it seems like McCarthy will stay in charge of the team.
Fans and some analysts might not be pleased with that, but the players could be.
The Cowboys have played harder and have looked more competitive as of late, and that doesn’t happen when a coach is on the hot seat and the players know it.
The pride and effort they’ve shown have made some people think that the players actually want McCarthy to stay.
The 61-year-old has earned plenty of criticism during his career as an NFL head coach, first with the Green Bay Packers and then with the Cowboys, and he should be held accountable for a big portion of Dallas’ struggles this season.
Then again, the issues might run deeper than that.
For as long as Dallas keeps doing the same things and handling business in the same way, it’s hard to envision the Cowboys going back to the Super Bowl.
