Chiefs Owner’s Message to Travis Kelce Is Turning Heads

Travis Kelce was among the biggest stars in attendance during the Kansas City Chiefs’ Christmas party on Friday night, and for good reason. Chiefs owner Clark Hunt actually called Kelce on stage during the event and recognized his off-field efforts, which have made a tremendous impact on the community.

Kelce is a nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, joining 31 others who have been selected from each team. The award “recognizes an NFL player for his excellence on and off the field,” with each team nominating “one player who has had a significant positive impact on his community,” according to the league’s website.

In his speech, Hunt called Kelce “one of the greatest tight ends to ever play the game.” But more than his greatness on the field, what stands out the most is how “he consistently uses his platform for good.” Kelce has a foundation called 87 and Running, which “helps underserved youth” by providing them with resources and mentorship that will develop their “abilities” and “critical life skills.”

“Since Travis came to Kansas City 12 years ago, he has established himself as one of the greatest to ever wear the Chiefs jersey, and one of the greatest tight ends to ever play the game,” Hunt said during his recognition of Kelce. “But Travis has been equally impressive off the field. His 87 and Running foundation has made a difference in the lives of so many young people as it prepares them for success inside and outside the classroom.”

Sure enough, fans were quick to react following the message from Clark Hunt, with many heaping praise on Travis Kelce. “Well deserved recognition, congrats!!” a commenter wrote on an Instagram video by Kelce Brothers.

Another one said, “What an amazing person.” “Keep up the good work Travis,” a third fan shared. A supporter added, “Awesome!! Couldn’t have happened to a more deserving guy!! Love ya!!” “Awesomeness!! He is Such a BLESSING!!” a fifth poster further stated.

Kelce certainly deserves the recognition, especially with how active he has been with his off-field initiatives. It remains to be seen if the Chiefs TE will win the Man of the Year honor, though fans will have to wait to know that, with the awarding scheduled for Feb. 6, 2025.
