Ricky Pearsall and DeMarcus Robinson are the only prominent returning WRs this offseason, with Christian Kirk and Mike Evans coming over on free agent deals to bolster the WR room. But there’s still room for one more player.

That’s why Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay is predicting the 49ers swing a smart trade with the Buffalo Bills for second-round bust Keon Coleman to take a flier on someone with some high upside, and might simply need a change of scenery.

“If Coleman is available, the San Francisco 49ers should come calling,” Kay writes. “The Niners are only holding six total picks in the 2026 draft, but giving up one of their three fourth-rounders for an athletic, 6’4”, 215-pound prospect with good hands and the potential to develop into a high-volume X receiver is worth the price of admission.”

The 49ers being interested in Coleman would make a ton of sense. Kyle Shanahan should be able to get the most out of the former 33rd overall pick.

Since he was a 2024 draft pick, Coleman is under contract on his rookie deal for the next two seasons, meaning the 49ers wouldn’t be acquiring him for just one year as a rental.

This year’s WR class is a good one, so the Bills will have hard-pressed to find a solid return for Coleman. A fourth-round pick isn’t terrible for Buffalo after this WR busted, but for the 49ers, it’s not too much to give up for a chance at a former top prospect.

After Coleman put up 404 receiving yards this past season with four touchdowns, he’s sitting at 960 yards and eight touchdowns for his career. That’s not nearly good enough for a highly drafted second-rounder.

If the 49ers can land Coleman and pair him with Evans, Kirk, and Pearsall, then the 49ers’ wide receiver room would be a fun group of high upside and solid floor players for Brock Purdy in the 2026 NFL season and potentially beyond.
