The San Francisco 49ers have been very busy during the 2026 NFL offseason. John Lynch and the front office have been aggressive in trying to push the team back to the Super Bowl.
Early on in NFL free agency, the 49ers took a big swing on star wide receiver Mike Evans. They signed him to a three-year, $60.4 million deal. San Francisco was also able to work out a deal to bring back linebacker Dre Greenlaw.
Other moves have been made, but the 49ers continue to be linked to aggressive moves.
Most recently, San Francisco has been viewed as a potential candidate to trade for Cleveland Browns superstar pass rusher Myles Garrett. After the Browns worked out a revised contract with Garrett that would make it easier to trade him, rumors have been running rampant.
A new connection has been made between the 49ers and Garrett as a potential trade fit.
San Francisco 49ers Again Connected to Potential Myles Garrett Trade
John Breech of CBS Sports has named the 49ers as a potential Garrett landing spot. Pairing up Nick Bosa and Garrett would be a nightmare scenario for opposing offenses.
“Garrett had more sacks last season (23) than the 49ers did as a team (20),” Breech wrote.
“San Francisco finished with the fewest sacks in the NFL and needs any help it can get in the pass-rushing department. The team has already signed 33-year-old Mike Evans and appears all-in for 2026, making a Garrett trade the ultimate aggressive move.”
One of the big reasons San Francisco had so few sacks was due to the torn ACL suffered by Bosa after playing just three games. The 49ers also saw rookie pass rusher Mykel Williams go down with a season-ending torn ACL after just nine games.
Even if the team doesn’t make the aggressive blockbuster trade to acquire Garrett, the presence of Bosa and Williams at full health should take the 49ers’ defense up a level in 2026.
Looking Closer at a Potential Myles Garrett-Nick Bosa Pairing
Garrett is one of the best pass rushers the NFL has ever seen. He further solidified that legacy by breaking the league’s single-season sack record last year.
In 134 games played across nine seasons, Garrett has racked up 412 total tackles to go along with 125.5 sacks, 23 forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries, and 18 defended passes. Those numbers show a glimpse at how dominant he has been with Cleveland.
As for Bosa, the 28-year-old superstar defensive end has also been one of the league’s best pass rushers. He has played in 85 career games, recording 278 tackles, 64.5 sacks, 13 forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, two interceptions, and nine defended passes.
Putting these two players together would be one of the best pass rushing duos in league history. It’s unlikely that San Francisco will be able to acquire Garrett, but it’s a dream scenario to say the least.
