As the Red Sox look to build on a successful 2025 season, the team continues to wait for good news regarding the status of Triston Casas, who ruptured the patellar tendon in his left knee last season.
A first-round pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, Casas has struggled to stay healthy, dealing with multiple injuries in his young career. He hit .182 with three home runs and 11 RBIs in 29 games last year before suffering the ugly knee injury in May.
The 26-year-old wants to work his way back into Boston’s lineup, but he understands that he will have to earn every at-bat.
“You see cases like this all the time where guys get injured, and sometimes their careers get derailed, and sometimes they bounce back,” Casas said (via MassLive). “I guess we’re just going to see how I bounce back from this.”
When will Casas return to the field? Here are the latest details on his recovery.
Triston Casas injury update: Latest news on Red Sox first baseman
March 25: Before Opening Day, the Red Sox officially placed Casas on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to March 22). He will remain in Florida for extended spring training.
“Triston Casas will stay back in Fort Myers and continue his progression for the next couple weeks,” MassLive’s Chris Cotillo said. “Sliding is the next big hurdle, followed by extended spring games.”
March 23: MassLive reported that Casas is “running the bases and doing sliding drills” in addition to hitting and fielding work. He is expected to play in the minors for multiple weeks before the Red Sox consider adding him to the main roster.
