Could the Astros land Byron Buxton from the Twins with this trade pitch?
The Houston Astros are entering the 2026 season hoping for better results than this past season. The 2025 campaign was a tough one for the Astros. While they finished the season with a respectable 87-75 record, it was not enough for them to make the playoffs. As a result of this, their postseason streak of eight years came to a frustrating end.
Following not making the playoffs, the Astros responded by making a handful of moves during the offseason. Among their most notable newcomers are Tatsuya Imai, Mike Burrows, Joey Loperfido, Nick Allen, and Ryan Weiss. However, they also lost some notable players from last season’s roster, with star pitcher Framber Valdez being the biggest.
Although the Astros made some moves this offseason, it is fair to argue that their roster could still use a boost. This is especially the case when it comes to their outfield, and a new trade pitch has them landing one of baseball’s top star trade candidates.
New Houston Astros Trade Pitch Lands Minnesota Twins Star Outfielder Byron Buxton
With the 2026 season just about here, Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report recently wrote an article that discussed seven blockbuster trade pitches. The Astros were among the teams mentioned in Miller’s piece, and one of his pitches had them land Minnesota Twins star outfielder Byron Buxton.
In his trade pitch, Miller had the Astros acquiring Buxton from the Twins in exchange for shortstop Xavier Neyens, catcher Walker Janek, and right-handed pitcher Miguel Ullola.
“Buxton does have a full no-trade clause that could keep him with the Twins through 2028. Can’t very well talk trade block without at least mentioning that little detail. If they’re burning it all down, though, it’s unlikely Buxton would insist upon remaining on a sinking ship. And Houston could certainly use him,” Miller wrote.
When looking at the Astros’ current roster, there is no question that they could use a legitimate star like Buxton. He would give a massive boost to the Astros’ outfield and would provide them another high-impact power hitter to work with.
Buxton’s stats from this past season effectively show just how good a player he is capable of being. In 126 games during last season with the Twins, he set career highs with 35 home runs and 83 RBIs. He also had 24 stolen bases and a .264 batting average, so it was an all-around strong year for the 32-year-old star outfielder.
Why This Astros-Twins Trade Pitch Would Benefit Both Teams
With the Astros looking to bounce back from their tough 2025 season, it would make all the sense in the world for them to swing a big deal for Buxton. He would give them another major star to work with as they look to prove that they can be true contenders in 2026.
As for the Twins, they would be adding three promising prospects as they continue to focus on the future. MLB.com has Neyens ranked as Houston’s second-best prospect, Janek as their fifth, and Ullola as their 13th. With this, these three players all have good upside and would certainly be nice pickups for the Twins to bring in.
