The Boston Red Sox will play their first game of the 2026 regular season on Thursday when they visit the Reds in Cincinnati.
They have just one more spring training game (on Tuesday against the Minnesota Twins).

Ahead of their Opening Day game, the Red Sox announced several roster moves on Monday.
One of those decisions involved veteran pitcher Tommy Kahnle.

Kahnle is coming off a year where he went 1-5 with a 4.43 ERA for the Detroit Tigers.
He has played 11 MLB seasons.

Kahnle was picked in the fifth round of the 2010 MLB Draft out of Lynn University.
In addition to the Tigers, the 36-year-old has also spent time playing for the New York Yankees, Colorado Rockies, Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers.
During the 2019 season (with New York), Kahnle went 3-2 with a 3.67 ERA in 72 games.

Kahnle has had a very strong career, and could still be a reliable veteran for other teams to take a look at in 2026.
Over 456 games, he has gone 11-19 with a 3.61 ERA.

Red Sox Heading Into 2026 Season
The Red Sox are coming off a year where they lost to the Yankees in the AL Wild Card.
Following the Reds, they will visit the Houston Astros before returning home to host the San Diego Padres (on April 3).
The franchise last won a World Series Championship in 2018.
