The Boston Red Sox are finalizing their opening day roster, but they are also making moves throughout the organization.
On Thursday, the Red Sox released first baseman Tyler Miller. He was originally drafted by the team in 2021 and has been in the minor leagues ever since. The 26-year-old had been declining offensively, and the Red Sox finally decided it was time to move on.

He spent all of last season in Double-A Portland. In 82 games, he had a .201/.265/.355 slash line. He struggled at the plate, but he was a versatile defender. Last season, he made starts at first base, third base, in left field and in right field. After he was drafted, he looked like he could end up being a solid player.
In 2021, between rookie ball and Single-A, he hit .327 with a .933 OPS. However, the next four seasons were not so kind to him. He had a .623 OPS in 2022, a .737 OPS in 2023 and a .654 OPS in 2024. The highest level he ever reached was Triple-A, but he did not record a hit in nine games there. He hit .167 in spring training this year. He had just six at-bats in five games.
His 2021 season at Auburn was great, so perhaps a new team will be willing to take a chance on him, in hopes of getting some of that out of him again.
