TheĀ Baltimore RavensĀ and their defensive plans for the future have been in limbo for the last 6 months after $98 million NFL All-Pro defensive tackleĀ Nnamdi MadubuikeĀ suffered a career-threatening neck injury in a Week 2 win over the Cleveland Browns.
With Madubuikeās career and future with the Ravens in doubt, we finally might have some clarity on what will happen next, and itās good news for the franchise.
āIām hearing that retirement is not in the cards for Nnamdi Madubuike and thereās a realistic expectation he will be back in a Ravens uniform this fall,āĀ Ravens Vaultās Bobby Trossett wroteĀ on his official X account on Friday.
Madubuike seemed to give the clearest indication he might be able to return to the field in 2026 with a recent post on X which simply said:Ā āGood Newsā followed by the prayer hands emoji.
Itās the second cryptic, indirect message Madubuike has sent out on social media in recent months.
Madubuike broke his silence for the first time on his Instagram stories with a picture of himself on December 8,Ā captioned with 3 crystal ball emojis.
Ravens Still Have Issues to Address on Defense
The Ravens defense was just at much at fault as the offense when it comes to last seasonās 8-9 finish and missing the playoffs.
āLetās be clear, even if Nnmadi Madubuike returns next season the Ravens still need to address the trenches BADLY,āĀ Ravens insider Hoodie RameyĀ wrote on X. āMaybe not R1, but it needs to be their biggest priority without question.ā
While the issues on offense can mostly be addressed if 2-time NFL MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson can stay healthy, on defense itās an issue of simply not having the right horses to run the race ā particularly at edge rusher.
NFL.comās Matt OkadaĀ called the defensive front theĀ āHighest Priority Fixā for the RavensĀ this offseason.
The Ravens addressed that in part when they hiredĀ Los Angeles ChargersĀ defensive coordinator and former Ravens assistant coach Jesse Minter as their new head coach, with Minter already stating heās going to make the defensive play calls.
āA couple years ago, Baltimoreās defensive front was a strength, anchoring the top scoring defense in theĀ NFL,ā Okada wrote. āIn 2025, it was a weakness. Defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike missed 15 games with a neck injury that still has his 2026 status in doubt ⦠PerĀ NFL Pro, Baltimoreās 28.4% pressure rate (fourth-lowest in the league) and 4.3% sack rate (second-lowest) wereĀ bothĀ their lowest marks as a franchise in at least eight seasons of available data. Perhaps through both free agency and the draft, the Ravens should focus on restoring their defensive front at the start of the Jesse Minter era.ā
Shocking Injury to $98 Million Superstar
Madubuike was put on injured reserveĀ on September 27 with a neck injury.
The news broke just one day ahead of a massive AFC showdown with theĀ Kansas City Chiefs,Ā and was followed by even more mystery as former head coach John Harbaugh refused to say it wasnāt a career threatening injury.
āIām trying to explain it in the best way I can in terms of what Iām allowed to tell you,ā Harbaugh told a group of reporters. āA lot of that are things he needs to address with you guys, on his time. Those are questions best addressed by him going forward.ā
