Could the Red Sox swing a trade for Dodgers catcher Dalton Rushing?
The Boston Red Sox are entering the 2026 season with the hope of taking another step in the right direction. The Red Sox certainly did so during the 2025 season, as they made the playoffs for the first time since 2021.
In response to their solid 2025 season, the Red Sox had a busy offseason. They added several new players to their roster, as they brought in Willson Contreras, Ranger Suarez, Sonny Gray, Johan Oviedo, Caleb Durbin, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Andruw Monasterio, and Danny Coulombe. With this, the Red Sox certainly have several new players to watch during the 2026 season.
While this is the case, it would not be particularly surprising if the Red Sox continued to look to add new talent. The American League East club would benefit by adding another catcher to their roster, and they are being linked to a very interesting one from the Los Angeles Dodgers because of it.
Red Sox Named a Top Trade Fit for Dodgersā Young Catcher Dalton Rushing
In a recent article for FanSided, Mark Powell looked at multiple MLB trade candidates with the 2026 season almost here and named the top landing spots for each. Among the players who Powell discussed was Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Dalton Rushing, which makes sense when noting that he has been the subject of trade speculation since the offseason.
When it came to Rushing, Powell listed the Red Sox as a top potential landing spot for the Dodgersā youngster. He also named the Pittsburgh Pirates as a potential fit.
āRushing is too good for Triple-A, but heās stuck sitting behind Will Smith on a stacked Dodgers team. So, LAās best option would be to trade Rushing elsewhere to add to a position of need,ā Powell wrote. āThe Dodgers need help in the outfield or at starting pitcher. If weāre leaning towards the first option, Iād suggest the Boston Red Sox as a potential suitor. Boston has loads of outfield depth and the Dodgers could use an extra outfielder. One of Jarren Duran or Wilyer Abreu could be available for the right price.ā
If the Red Sox want to add another catcher, there is no question that Rushing would be a good player for them to take a chance on. The 25-year-old has a ton of potential and could thrive in a more significant role with a team on the rise like the Red Sox.
Rushing appeared in his first 53 major league games this past season with the Dodgers, where he had four home runs, 24 RBIs, and a .204 batting average. Overall, the young catcher had some struggles at the plate, but that is understandable when noting that this was his first year in the majors.
Rushing Would Give Red Sox Catcher With High Potential
With the Red Sox being a team that is focused on both the present and future, Rushing could be a fantastic long-term fit on their roster. The potential for him to break out and become a high-impact catcher in the majors is there, and he certainly could take that next step in Boston. As a result of this, the Red Sox would be wise to pursue him.
Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what happens between the Dodgers and Rushing from here.
