Rangers’ Roster Moves Stir Up Spring Training Buzz

As spring training winds down in Arizona, the Rangers have made a series of roster decisions that have left fans buzzing. The latest moves involve sending promising prospects Cam Cauley and Gavin Collyer to the minor league camp, signaling they won’t be part of the Opening Day roster.

While it might be a surprise to some, there’s a method to the madness. Both players, still in the early stages of their careers, have plenty of potential but need more seasoning.

With only 14 combined games at Triple-A Round Rock, this could be a strategic step for their development, allowing them to hone their skills with more playing time.

In addition to Cauley and Collyer, the Rangers have also reassigned catcher Willie MacIver, pitcher Jose Corniell, and infielder Jonah Bride to the minors. Alexis Diaz, who was designated for assignment earlier, cleared waivers and will join the Triple-A squad.

Eovaldi Set for Another Opening Day Start

Nathan Eovaldi is set to take the mound for the Rangers on Opening Day, marking his third consecutive season with this honor. The 36-year-old pitcher will face the Phillies in Philadelphia on March 26.

Eovaldi has been a reliable presence for Texas, and this spring, he’s logged 15.1 innings with a 4.11 ERA, 16 strikeouts, and a 1.17 WHIP over four starts. His track record against the Phillies includes a 5-4 record and a 3.51 ERA in 12 games, showcasing his capability to handle the pressure of a season opener.

Concerns Surround Joc Pederson’s Spring Performance

Joc Pederson’s performance this spring has raised some eyebrows. After a challenging season last year, the 33-year-old designated hitter is struggling to find his form.

With a .172 batting average, 10 strikeouts, and no extra-base hits in 29 at-bats, Pederson’s numbers are concerning. Despite shedding weight in the offseason, the pressure is mounting, especially with Andrew McCutchen’s strong showing.

At this pace, Mark Canha or Tyler Wade might be more viable options for the lineup.

Rangers’ Offensive Outburst Sparks Hope

Rangers fans have reason to be cautiously optimistic after witnessing some explosive offensive performances this week. With victories of 8-3, 7-6, 9-4, and a staggering 22-2 against the Padres, the team has shown its potential firepower.

The 22-run spectacle featured a 13-run third inning and six home runs, leaving fans eager for the regular season to begin. If this offensive momentum carries over, the Rangers could be a force to reckon with.

The Rangers’ spring training has been a mix of strategic decisions and promising glimpses, setting the stage for an intriguing season ahead.
