Kansas City, MO. The Kansas City Chiefs continue reshaping their secondary this offseason, quietly adding a cornerback determined to restart his career after a difficult year away from the field.
The move represents a low-risk gamble that could deliver significant upside if the player returns to his earlier form.
The player arriving in Kansas City is Kader Kohou, who has agreed to a veteran minimum contract with the Chiefs after departing the Miami Dolphins earlier this offseason.

For Kohou, the deal is less about the money and more about the opportunity to prove he still belongs among the league’s reliable defensive backs.
Kohou’s journey to the NFL has never followed a traditional path. The defensive back played college football at Texas A&M University–Commerce Lions, where he helped the program capture the 2017 NCAA Division II national championship before pursuing professional opportunities.
Despite strong college production, Kohou went undrafted in 2022 before signing with Miami as an undrafted free agent.
He quickly surprised the league by earning a spot on the Dolphins’ 53-man roster and emerging as one of the most productive undrafted rookies that season.
During his breakout rookie campaign in 2022, Kohou recorded 72 tackles and 10 pass breakups, leading all undrafted rookies in both categories while playing a key role in Miami’s defense as the team pushed toward the playoffs.
His development continued in 2024 when he delivered the most efficient season of his career.
Kohou finished with two interceptions and a forced fumble, while ranking among the NFL’s most efficient coverage defenders.
Advanced metrics placed him sixth in the league in lowest yards allowed per coverage snap at 0.62 yards, alongside elite corners such as Pat Surtain II.
Unfortunately, his momentum was halted during the 2025 offseason when he suffered a torn ACL during training camp, forcing him to miss the entire season and casting uncertainty over his future in Miami.
Now fully recovered, Kohou arrives in Kansas City with a chance to reestablish himself.
Chiefs coaches reportedly view him as a strong candidate to compete for the nickel cornerback role, a position that requires versatility, quick reaction speed, and strong tackling ability in the middle of the field.
The opportunity became available after major changes in the Chiefs’ defensive backfield, including the departure of star cornerback Trent McDuffie, who was traded to the Los Angeles Rams earlier this offseason.
Financially, the deal carries very little risk for Kansas City. Because Kohou entered the league in 2022, he qualifies for a four-year veteran minimum contract, which is projected to be roughly $1.2 million for the 2026 season under the NFL’s salary structure.
For Kohou, the contract represents far more than a paycheck. It’s an opportunity to rebuild his reputation and prove he can still be a reliable contributor on a championship contender.
If he can return to the form that once made him one of the most productive undrafted defensive backs in football, the Chiefs may have quietly pulled off one of the most underrated signings of the 2026 offseason. And for Kohou, the comeback story is just beginning.
