Do not forget that this Yankees slugger also snubbed the SF Giants

The SF Giants have been snubbed by several free agents in recent years that have ended up on the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees. One who may fly under the radar is Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton.

Giants fans certainly remember the heartbreak of coming up short in the Aaron Judge sweepstakes two offseasons ago and the Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes last offseason. Both were the top free agent on the market in those respective years and both decided against the Giants despite San Francisco making a strong push for them both.

It may be hard to remember after these heartbreaks that there was a time when it seemed possible that Giancarlo Stanton was going to be a Giant.

Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton snubbed the SF Giants too

After the disastrous 2017 season when the Giants went 64-98, there was a lot of talk about them making a trade for Stanton who was on the Miami Marlins at the time. Stanton refused to waive his no-trade clause to be traded to the Giants and the St. Louis Cardinals. This snub hurt even more when it came to light that the Giants could have had Stanton for basically nothing. The trade in place to acquire him was in exchange for Denard Span, Jacob Gonzalez, and Andrew Suarez. What could have been.

Instead, the Marlins ended up trading him to the Yankees which is where he has remained since 2018. He has. had some rough years in pinstripes but has been phenomenal in the 2024 postseason, blasting 5 home runs thus far.

Since the Judge and Ohtani snubs happened more recently they eclipse the Stanton snub. But we should not forget that Stanton decided against playing in San Francisco for the Giants the same way Judge and Ohtani did.

Of course, there is a good chance we will be able to add Yankees slugger Juan Soto to the snub list this offseason if the Giants make a push for him and come up short which seems likely.

There is not much for Giants fans to actively root for in this World Series. Instead, they will be forced to reluctantly cheer for Stanton and company as they try to take down the dreaded Dodgers.
