The Giants are being predicted to sign Lucas Giolito
The San Francisco Giants are entering the 2026 season with the hope of bouncing back in a big way. The Giants underperformed this past season, as they finished the 2025 campaign with an 81-81 record and third in the National League West standings. They also missed the playoffs for the fourth straight season in the process.
In response to their disappointing 2025 season, the Giants made a handful of moves during the winter. They brought in several new players during the offseason, as they added Harrison Bader, Luis Arraez, Tyler Mahle, Adrian Houser, Sam Hentges, and Jason Foley. With this, the Giants are entering the 2026 season with a different-looking roster and will be hoping for more success this campaign because of it.
Yet, when looking at the Giants’ roster, it is fair to argue that they could use another impactful starting pitcher. Their rotation is in need of a boost, and they are now being linked to the top remaining free agent pitcher who is still on the market.
Giants Predicted to Sign Lucas Giolito Ahead of Regular Season
In a recent article for FanSided, Chris Landers took a look at a handful of the remaining top free agents and predicted where they would sign ahead of Opening Day. Lucas Giolito was naturally discussed, as he is easily the top free agent pitcher who has yet to land a contract.
When it came to Giolito, Landers predicted that the Giants would end up being the team that lands him.
“So what about the Giants? They could still use another option behind Logan Webb, Robbie Ray, Landon Roupp, Adrian Houser and Tyler Mahle, and the spacious Oracle Park is just about the perfect fit for a fly-ball pitcher who’s had trouble at times with the home run ball. If Giolito’s looking for a place to compete for a playoff spot and rebuild his market for next winter, he could do a lot worse,” Landers wrote.
With the Giants needing another starting pitcher, it would make a lot of sense for them to add Giolito to their roster. He would give them another solid veteran pitcher to work with and could upgrade the bottom half of their rotation because of it.
Giolito is also coming off a solid 2025 season with the Boston Red Sox. In 26 games with the American League East club last season, the 6-foot-6 righty had a 10-4 record, a 3.41 ERA, and 121 strikeouts. With numbers like these, the former All-Star would be a good pitcher for the Giants to take a chance on.
Giolito Could Generate Interest From More Teams
With Giolito being the best pitcher still on the free agent market, it is certainly possible that more teams could target him besides the Giants. This is especially so if other teams start to get bitten by the injury bug more as the regular season continues to get closer. Thus, the Giants could have some competition for his services if they pursue him.
Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see if the Giants can end up landing Giolito, but the fit certainly looks good on paper.
