Buffalo, NY. One of the Buffalo Billsā most respected offensive veterans has reportedly accepted that his time with the franchise is nearing its end, despite making it clear he was willing to reduce his salary in order to remain with the team.
The veteran tight end is entering the final stage of the four-year, $52 million contract extension he signed with Buffalo, a deal that once reflected his importance as a core piece of the offense.
But with the Bills continuing to reshape the roster around Josh Allen and a younger offensive nucleus, internal belief is growing that the organization is preparing to move in a different direction.
According to sources close to the situation, the player communicated more than once that he was open to restructuring his deal and lowering his cap burden if that meant staying in Buffalo.
āI made it clear I was willing to do what it took financially to stay here, but the sense I got was that the team is looking toward a different future at my position.ā
The player at the center of that decision is Dawson Knox.
Knox, now 29, remains one of the most familiar and well-liked figures in the Bills locker room. Even while sharing a larger offensive load with other pass catchers, he still delivered solid production during the 2025 season, finishing with 36 receptions, 417 receiving yards, and 4 touchdowns.
More importantly than the raw numbers, Knox continued to offer Buffalo reliability in key situations, veteran leadership, and a physical presence as both a receiver and blocker ā traits that made him valuable even as the offense evolved.
Still, the financial structure of his deal and the teamās long-term roster planning appear to be pushing both sides toward an eventual separation.
For Buffalo, such a move would signal another step in streamlining the offense around its younger core. For Knox, it would mark the end of a meaningful chapter with the franchise that drafted him and watched him grow into a Pro Bowl-caliber contributor.
He was willing to stay.
He was willing to sacrifice.
But all signs now suggest his future may lie elsewhere.
