White Sox Extend Spring Winning Streak With 5–4 Victory Over Royals

The Chicago White Sox continued their impressive run in spring training with a narrow 5–4 victory over the Kansas City Royals, marking the club’s 10th win of the preseason.

Chicago’s latest exhibition triumph showcased both timely hitting and solid late-game pitching, as several players delivered key moments to secure the win.

Jarred Kelenic Sparks the Offense Early

Outfielder Jarred Kelenic provided the first spark for the White Sox lineup.

Facing Royals starter Noah Cameron, Kelenic launched a towering 430-foot home run in a left-handed matchup.

The powerful blast immediately put Chicago on the scoreboard and demonstrated the type of offensive impact the team hopes to see from him throughout the season.

Later in the game, Kelenic added even more drama.

After another offensive surge by the White Sox, he delivered his second home run of the game, a play that ultimately provided the decisive run in Chicago’s victory.

Jordan Hicks Struggles on the Mound

While the White Sox offense delivered big moments, starting pitcher Jordan Hicks experienced a challenging outing.

Hicks pitched only 1⅔ innings, issuing four walks and allowing two runs.

One of those runs came via a bases-loaded walk, highlighting the control issues he faced during the appearance.

Another notable observation was Hicks’ fastball velocity.

Earlier in spring training, his fastball consistently reached 99–100 mph, but during this outing it sat closer to 98 mph.

While still extremely fast, the slight drop drew attention and may reinforce expectations that Hicks could eventually transition into a bullpen role rather than remain in the starting rotation.

Royals Tie the Game

The Royals responded quickly after falling behind.

Rising prospect Luisangel Acuña continued his impressive spring training performance by delivering an RBI single up the middle.

The sharply hit line drive left his bat at 110 mph, tying the game at two runs and extending his strong preseason momentum.

Kansas City later took the lead after first baseman Nick Loftin connected for a home run off Chicago reliever Sean Newcomb, giving the Royals a 4–2 advantage.

Newcomb had looked sharp in earlier innings before surrendering the go-ahead blast.

Colson Montgomery Delivers Clutch Moment

The White Sox found their answer thanks to one of their most exciting young players.

Shortstop Colson Montgomery broke out of his spring slump with a two-run home run that tied the game at four.

The ball left Montgomery’s bat with a 105.9 mph exit velocity, slightly surpassing a 105.7 mph flyout he recorded earlier in the game.

The swing represented a significant moment for the former top prospect, who had been searching for offensive rhythm throughout spring training.

Montgomery’s clutch blast reset the momentum in Chicago’s favor.

Late Pitching Secures the Victory

Once the White Sox regained the lead following Kelenic’s second homer, the bullpen took control.

Relievers Jordan Leasure, Chris Murphy, and Tyler Gilbert combined to deliver several scoreless innings.

Their efforts prevented the Royals from mounting a comeback and preserved the 5–4 final score.

Strong bullpen performances are often a key focus during spring training, and Chicago’s relief pitchers delivered exactly what the coaching staff hoped to see.

A Positive Sign for Chicago

Reaching double-digit wins in spring training provides an encouraging sign for the White Sox as they continue preparing for the regular season.

Although exhibition results do not always translate directly to regular-season success, strong performances help build confidence and allow players to refine their roles.

Chicago’s offense demonstrated the ability to respond to adversity, while the bullpen showed the depth necessary to close out tight games.

Looking Ahead

The White Sox will return to action in their next spring training matchup against the Colorado Rockies.

The game is scheduled to take place at Camelback Ranch, where Chicago will continue evaluating its roster ahead of Opening Day.

With several young players showing promising development and the team building momentum through spring training victories, the White Sox appear focused on carrying that positive energy into the upcoming MLB season.
