Kansas City, MO. As the new NFL league year approaches, the Kansas City Chiefs have moved quickly to reinforce one of the most important positions in their offense.
League sources confirmed that Kansas City has reached agreement with former Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne, adding a dynamic weapon to an already explosive offense led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
According to Adam Schefter, the deal came together quickly after several teams showed interest in Etienne once it became clear he would hit free agency.
Kansas City ultimately won the race, seeing the versatile running back as a perfect complement in Andy Reid’s offensive system.
Etienne, 27, enters Kansas City after a productive final season with Jacksonville. In 2025 he appeared in all 17 games, rushing 260 times for 1,107 yards and seven touchdowns, while also contributing heavily in the passing game with 36 receptions for 292 yards and six receiving touchdowns.
His ability to impact both the ground game and the passing attack was a major factor in the Chiefs’ pursuit.
Head coach Andy Reid has long valued running backs who can operate as receiving threats out of the backfield, and Etienne’s versatility fits that mold perfectly.
Kansas City had been linked to several running backs heading into free agency as the team looked to strengthen the position behind its high-powered passing attack.
Adding Etienne provides a dual-threat option who can create explosive plays in space while also helping balance the offense.
Originally selected with the 25th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Etienne built a reputation as one of the league’s most dynamic running backs after starring at Clemson before entering the NFL.
Now he joins a Chiefs offense that already features one of the most dangerous passing attacks in football.
With Mahomes under center and Reid designing the offense, Etienne could quickly become another key weapon in Kansas City’s pursuit of another Super Bowl run.
