The Dallas Cowboys are once again talking about making a splash this offseason as NFL rumors heat up ahead of free agency. Will this be yet another offseason where the Cowboys dominate the NFL news without taking any major swings?
It remains to be seen, but all eyes are on the Cowboys front office as Dallas looks to return to the NFL playoffs after a disappointing season. Dallas could look to sign one of the suddenly available veterans from the growing list of NFL cap casualties.
Star receiver Stefon Diggs has been linked to the Cowboys throughout his career. This was largely due to the presence of his brother Trevon Diggs as one of the Cowboys stars.
The star corner is no longer in Big D, but could Dallas take a chance on another Diggs? With the New England Patriots releasing Diggs, the Cowboys have a chance to sign the veteran wideout, but the playmaker brings his own set of complications.
Let’s take a look at the latest Cowboys rumors.
Cowboys Rumors: Dallas Labeled a Top Landing Spot for Ex-Patriots Receiver Stefon Diggs
The question is what Diggs’ next team can expect from the playmaker in 2026. Diggs was able to bounce back from a less than ideal 2024 campaign with the Houston Texans.
The veteran posted 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns with the Patriots in 2025. Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton labeled the Cowboys as a top landing spot for Diggs following his release.
“Even if Dallas works out a long-term agreement with (George) Pickens, it could still add Stefon Diggs to the mix,” Moton wrote in a March 4, 2026, story titled, “Best NFL Free-Agency Landing Spots for Stefon Diggs After Patriots Release WR.” “Owner Jerry Jones can look to further maximize his investment in quarterback Dak Prescott.
“CeeDee Lamb, Pickens and Diggs can co-exist in the same offense. In the last few years, Diggs has taken a significant number of snaps out of the slot. Lamb and Pickens rotated inside last season. They’re all interchangeable as it pertains to their pre-snap positions,” Moton continued.
“Lastly, Diggs is familiar with Cowboys’ passing game specialist, Ken Dorsey, who served as his offensive coordinator with the Buffalo Bills from 2022 to 2023.”
Stefon Diggs Is Making Headlines for the Wrong Reasons
Diggs accompanied with the expectations of being an elite top receiving option is less than ideal. Yet, Diggs alongside CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens offers plenty of intrigue.
The challenge is Diggs is currently being talked about more for his life away from football than his play. Diggs has made headlines for his highly publicized breakup with Cardi B.
There is also an ongoing legal investigation with Diggs potentially facing serious charges.
Could the Cowboys Take a Gamble on Star NFL WR Stefon Diggs?
All this complicates Diggs’ potential market following his release. A team like the Cowboys may be more likely to sign Diggs to a one-year prove-it deal than a lucrative long-term contract.
Diggs previously signed a three-year, $63.5 million contract with the Patriots. This deal was initially slated to go through the 2027 season prior to his abrupt release by New England. It would be surprising if Diggs finds as lucrative of a deal this offseason.
