BREAKING: Stefon Diggs Is Officially Headed to the San Francisco 49ers— The Former Bills Star Who Once Torched the AFC East Is Now Landing in the Bay Area to Form a Nightmare WR Duo Nobody Expected

Stefon Diggs Is Headed to the San Francisco 49ers

Santa Clara, CA. A surprising opportunity may be forming for the San Francisco 49ers as the team faces the possible departure of one of its most reliable receivers while a high-profile veteran suddenly becomes available on the open market.

Reports suggest that veteran wide receiver Jauan Jennings could be heading toward free agency after contract negotiations with San Francisco stalled ahead of the new league year.

The two sides have reportedly struggled to find common ground financially, and Jennings is believed to be seeking a deal worth more than $20 million per year.

If Jennings ultimately departs, the 49ers would face the challenge of replacing a physical receiver who has become a dependable target in the offense and a respected voice inside the locker room.

At the same time, another major development across the league may have created the perfect replacement.

The New England Patriots recently released veteran star Stefon Diggs after contract negotiations broke down when the team attempted to restructure his deal.

With Diggs declining the proposal and his salary cap hit set to rise dramatically, the Patriots ultimately chose to move on.

Now entering free agency, Diggs immediately becomes one of the most intriguing wide receivers available on the market.

Despite the sudden release, Diggs proved in 2025 that he can still perform at a high level. In his lone season with New England, he recorded 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns, leading the Patriots’ receiving corps and helping the team reach the Super Bowl.

For San Francisco, the timing of these two developments could create a natural connection.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan has long preferred receivers who can operate effectively in the intermediate passing game while also stretching defenses vertically.

Diggs’ route-running precision, experience, and ability to create separation would make him an immediate fit within the 49ers’ offensive system.

Adding a proven veteran like Diggs could also provide stability for quarterback Brock Purdy while ensuring that San Francisco’s passing attack remains dangerous even if Jennings ultimately leaves.

While no deal has been announced, league observers believe the situation could develop quickly once the free-agent market officially opens.

If San Francisco decides to pursue Diggs, the move could represent one of the most intriguing roster shifts of the offseason.

For a team that continues to chase another Super Bowl appearance, replacing a departing receiver with a veteran star might be exactly the type of bold move the 49ers need.
