KANSAS CITY, MO. The Kansas City Chiefs appear to be closing in on one of the biggest offensive additions of the offseason, with veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs now expected to land in Kansas City following his release from the New England Patriots.
The Patriots informed Diggs that he will be released once the new league year begins, ending his brief but productive stint with the organization.
The move comes just one season into the three-year, $63.5 million contract he signed in 2025.
Despite the short stay, Diggs delivered strong numbers in New England. The veteran receiver finished the season with 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns, helping quarterback Drake Maye develop into one of the league’s rising young passers.
Now the Chiefs are positioned to take advantage of the situation. Kansas City was already monitoring Diggs during last offseason’s free agency period and reportedly maintained interest even after he chose the Patriots.
With Diggs now available again, the Chiefs have moved quickly to explore the opportunity.
Head coach Andy Reid and the front office are focused on strengthening the offensive arsenal around superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes as the franchise continues its push for another championship run.
Adding an experienced receiver like Diggs would instantly elevate Kansas City’s passing attack and provide Mahomes with another elite playmaker capable of stretching defenses.
Diggs could also form a dangerous receiving combination alongside rising receiver Rashee Rice, giving the Chiefs one of the most dynamic receiving groups in the AFC.
Financially, the move is workable for Kansas City. The Chiefs maintain enough salary cap flexibility to pursue a veteran playmaker if the right opportunity presents itself.
For Kansas City, the potential signing represents a clear signal that the franchise is determined to keep its championship window wide open.
If finalized, the move would bring one of the NFL’s most experienced receivers to Kansas City and give the Chiefs offense yet another explosive weapon heading into the 2026 season. 🔥🏆
