PITTSBURGH BOMBSHELL: Steelers just dropped massive QB news that could completely reshape the franchise — is this the moment Aaron Rodgers’ era officially ends?

The quarterback carousel in NFL free agency just spun into overdrive, and it’s dropping a massive opportunity right in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ lap.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Arizona Cardinals are poised to cut ties with Kyler Murray on the opening day of the new league year, March 11. This bombshell move shakes up the market and positions Murray as a prime candidate for teams hunting a signal-caller upgrade—including the Steelers.

While Aaron Rodgers still looms as Pittsburgh’s dream acquisition at quarterback, Murray’s sudden availability injects a thrilling wildcard into the equation. If Rodgers slips away, the former Cardinal could be the game-changer the Steelers desperately need.

Murray’s Rollercoaster Ride

Drafted first overall out of Oklahoma in 2019, Murray burst onto the scene like a supernova. He snagged the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors and earned Pro Bowl nods in 2020 and 2021, showcasing his dual-threat wizardry.

That stardom led to a mammoth five-year, $230.5 million extension with Arizona before the 2022 season. But since then, it’s been a steep nosedive for both Murray and the Cardinals.

Injuries have plagued him relentlessly. Between 2022 and 2023, he suited up for just 19 games after a devastating ACL tear late in 2022. He managed a full slate in 2024, but a Week 5 foot injury this past season limited him to only five appearances.

Across his 87 career games, Murray has racked up 20,460 passing yards, 121 touchdowns, and 60 interceptions, while adding 3,193 rushing yards and 32 scores on the ground. The numbers scream potential, but the setbacks scream caution.

Could Murray Be the Steelers’ Savior?

Once hailed as the future of the position, Murray’s value has plummeted amid performance dips and injury woes. Playing devil’s advocate, though: He’s been stuck in a dysfunctional Cardinals setup for years. Sure, Murray shares the blame—he hasn’t always delivered—but the environment was far from championship-caliber.

Here’s where it gets juicy for Pittsburgh: The Steelers aren’t flush with cash to splash on a big-name like Malik Willis. But Murray’s already locked in for $36.8 million guaranteed from Arizona in 2026, so he could ink a deal at the veteran minimum. That low-cost entry point should spark a bidding war, yet Pittsburgh’s setup screams “perfect fit” for the 28-year-old.

The Steelers boast a roster primed for immediate contention. Yes, they need to bolster weapons around DK Metcalf, but post-NFL Scouting Combine buzz suggests that’s high on their to-do list.

With offensive guru Mike McCarthy steering the ship, this feels like a no-brainer, high-upside gamble. Murray could ignite the offense, pushing Pittsburgh deeper into AFC North battles—or even Super Bowl chatter.

At minimum, he’s a battle-tested vet who’s led teams before, outshining most free-agent options despite the red flags. In the dream scenario, he recaptures that Pro Bowl magic and reboots his legacy in black and gold.

Health and form are valid concerns, no doubt. But if Rodgers bows out, pivoting to Murray could be the explosive twist that redefines the Steelers’ season. This isn’t just news—it’s a potential franchise-altering thunderbolt.
