Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and wife, Brittany Mahomes, were noticeably absent in Missouri.

During the offseason, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is working hard to reach full strength after suffering a torn ACL and MCL in Week 15.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told recenly reporters recently that Mahomes spends “seven hours a day” at the team’s training center. “He’s in there cranking away, making progress every day.” The 30-year-old quarterback is also spending quality time with his family.

Mahomes and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, celebrated their eldest daughter, Sterling’s 5th birthday last weekend in Dallas-Fort Worth.

The three-time Super Bowl MVP and Brittany are also gearing up for the 2026 NWSL season. Brittany is a founding co-owner of the Kansas City Current, along with owners Chris and Angie Long, while Mahomes joined as a co-owner in January 2023. The new season kicks off with a home game against the Utah Royals on March 14.

After the Current’s extraordinary 2025 season ended in heartbreak, they hired a new head coach, Chris Armas, and made two blockbuster moves to reshape the roster. While Mahomes and Brittany are regulars at matches, they were noticeably absent from a major event this week.

Patrick & Brittany Mahomes Missed the New $52 Million Performance Center’s Unveiling

Last July, the Current announced that they broke ground on a three-tiered expansion in Riverside, Missouri. “As the club continues to invest in the future of women’s soccer and the state of Missouri,” they are building Riverside Stadium, The Performance Center, and Pitch Expansion, totaling a $52 million investment.

At the time, Brittany and Mahomes both shared the exciting news on their Instagram Stories. The 2,000-seat Riverside Stadium will feature “a FIFA certified, heated grass pitch and gan amenities,” with an eye toward hosting a 2026 men’s World Cup base camp.

However, when the state-of-the-art addition was officially unveiled on February 25, the famous couple was noticeably absent. The Current’s Instagram account posted, “Raising the global standard in women’s sports 🙌 KC Current unveils a new performance center dedicated to the development of players & growing the game.”

The Longs were both present. Chris Long shared in a statement, “Investing in women’s sports is not symbolic. It is strategic. It strengthens communities, inspires young people, and drives economic growth. Riverside Stadium & Performance Center is about leveling up the game again.”

KC Current Is Reserving Part of the Land For a Future WNBA Training Facility

Long told ESPN last year that they reserved part of the land to build a facility for a future WNBA expansion team. “We think that will happen at some point,” Long said.

While the Longs and the Mahomes pitched the WNBA in October, they faced heavy competition to win a bid. The WNBA previously announced new expansion teams in Toronto, Canada, and Portland, Oregon. Instead of Kansas City, the league is adding new teams in Cleveland in 2028, Detroit in 2029, and Philadelphia in 2030.

Mahomes is passionate about bringing a WNBA team to the area. “You see how Kansas City has embraced all sports that have been in the city, especially women’s sports,” he told reporters last February. “I’ve seen it first hand with the Kansas City Current. I know if we were able to get a WNBA team to Kansas City, it would be packed every single night.

“That’s just the kind of atmosphere that we have in Kansas City. I’m hoping we can get that done and we can continue to push women’s sports forward.”
