When you look at the different mock drafts that have been thrown out to the public, the Buffalo Bills are consistently mocked for drafting a wide receiver. I mean, that’s the biggest issue on the roster, right? It makes sense, it just depends on which prospect would be the one that can help correct this room on the roster.
The Bills are in win-now mode as long as Josh Allen is in his prime. While it’s important to build for the future, the Bills cannot afford to waste away resources that sets them up for the future when they have a star quarterback who will be 30 years old this coming season. Buffalo is on the doorstep of the Super Bowl, but they haven’t opened the door just yet.
This year’s NFL Draft is less than two months away and you would think that most, if not all mocks had the Bills taking a receiver. Maybe there will be a linebacker thrown in the mix. Heck, maybe there is a safety or defensive back in there as well. One position that shouldn’t be considered in the first round is the offensive line, but A.J. Fagerlin from NFL Spin Zone has the Bills making a first round pick that would greatly upset Bills fans.

In this mock, Fagerlin has the Bills selecting Alabama offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor. Huh?
“With this pick, we go against the consensus of penciling in the top wide receiver to the Buffalo Bills. Instead, like the Lions earlier, the Bills think ahead to the future at left tackle. Kadyn Proctor could develop into a talented tackle at the next level with proper coaching and weight training, and could contribute inside at guard right away for the Bills, protecting Josh Allen.” said Fagerlin.
Again, I understand that there has to be resources invested for the future, but for the Bills to use the No. 26 pick on an offensive lineman would be very confusing and fans would be demanding to know the reasons why this kind of pick was made.
Dion Dawkins and Spencer Brown are one of the top offensive linemen at their respective positions. Dawkins is starting to approach the backend of his career, yet he still remains elite in pass protection. As for Brown, you could make the case that he is the best run-blocking tackle in the game and he is at the start of his prime.
Buffalo doesn’t need to waste a first round pick on someone that wouldn’t start for 2-3 years minimum. They need a receiver. They need edge rushing help. Heck, they may need to solidify their linebacker room. Investing an offensive lineman early in the draft is something that they don’t need to do.
