Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Omar Khan dropped the news everyone’s been waiting for at the 2026 NFL Combine: the team is all-in on Will Howard — and they’re making sure he has his favorite target back by his side.

“We’re excited to work with Will,” Khan said, confirming what Steelers fans have been hoping for. “Coach McCarthy has talked about how much he liked Will coming out of college. We watched all the practice tape, saw the progression — there’s some really exciting stuff there.”
Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Carnell Tate
And now the reunion is official in spirit: the Steelers have formally met with Ohio State’s star wideout and projected first-round pick Carnell Tate, the same explosive receiver who teamed up with Howard to win the 2025 National Championship.
Tate couldn’t hide his excitement after the Pittsburgh meeting.
“Will’s my guy,” Tate beamed. “All we do is joke around with each other. We call each other, we make fun of each other. It would be great to catch passes from Will again. I’ve done it before — we’d just go out there and keep laughing and joking like old times.”
The chemistry is already legendary. The 2025 title-winning battery is back together in black and gold.
Right now the Steelers’ wide receiver room is thin — DK Metcalf, Roman Wilson, and Ben Skowronek are the only three holdovers from last season’s active roster. That changes the moment they add Tate. Pittsburgh has made it crystal clear they’re targeting elite talent early in the draft, with Tate and Jordyn Tyson sitting at the very top of their board.
At pick 21, Tate might require a move up, but sources say he’s one of the few players the Steelers are actually willing to trade up for. And once they do?
Watch out.
Howard gets his proven deep threat and security blanket. Metcalf gets a second superstar on the outside. And every linebacker and secondary in the AFC North just got a nightmare assignment for the next decade.
When asked who the best wide receiver in the entire draft class is, Tate didn’t blink: “Me, no questions. I bring it all to the table. Whatever you need, I got it.”
This isn’t just another draft pick. This is Pittsburgh fixing the wide receiver room for the first time in years while giving their future quarterback the exact weapon he dominated college football with.
The 2025 champs are officially reunited in Steeler uniforms.
Linebackers and secondaries across the league… start taking notes.
The 1-2 punch is coming. And it’s going to be terrifying.
