The Miami Dolphins have started making significant roster changes, releasing several key players as they gear up for a rebuild. Among those catching attention is Tyreek Hill, a name that has Pittsburgh Steelers fans buzzing with excitement. However, bringing Hill to Pittsburgh might not be the best play for the Steelers.
Once upon a time, Hill was among the NFL’s elite receivers. His blazing speed and ability to make plays after the catch made him a standout with the Chiefs and a dynamic presence in Miami. But when you consider the Steelers’ current setup, Hill might not be the right fit.
Hill’s recent seasons have been rocky. Last year, he appeared in just four games and didn’t hit the 1,000-yard mark in 2024. Part of the issue was Tua Tagovailoa’s struggle to throw deep, which clipped a major strength of Hill’s game.
Hill is also approaching 32, and speed is often the first casualty of age. While it’s not entirely on him, this timing raises questions about his future effectiveness.
Financially, Hill’s previous $30 million per year contract with the Dolphins sets a high bar. The Steelers, not known for big spending sprees, might find such a contract tough to justify.
Adding to the complexity, the Steelers are likely to see Aaron Rodgers return, a quarterback who excels with quick, short passes. This style doesn’t align with Hill’s deep-threat capabilities, even though he can still make plays in shorter scenarios. Investing heavily in Hill without a deep-ball game plan seems impractical.
While Hill’s name carries weight, his fit with the Steelers is debatable. There are other free-agent receivers who might mesh better with Pittsburgh’s needs. Hill would likely shine brighter with a team that can leverage his deep-threat potential.
